Project Ten Pin

The specific project being coordinated by the Illinois Jaycee Charitable Foundation is called Project Ten Pin. The purpose of the project is to raise funds for Junior Chamber Family AIDS Network (JCFAN) and The Children's Place in Chicago, Illinois.

Project Ten Pin is a one-day bowl-a-thon project event supported by Jaycee chapters throughout the state of Illinois on September 24, 2004. Jaycee chapters are responsible for obtaining bowlers to participate who in turn are responsible for obtaining sponsors. Participants can be either an individual or a member of a local business or corporation team.

Project Specifics

Local Jaycee chapters will be responsible for reserving a local bowling center for the purpose of conducting the event on the selected state-wide date. Local bowling establishments are being encouraged to donate their facility at no or minimum cost to the bowlers. Jaycee chapters will also be responsible for soliciting and registering bowlers to participate. Participants can be either an individual or a member of a local business or corporation sponsored team.

Participating bowlers are responsible for obtaining pledges from sponsors. The minimum pledge is 10 cents per pin. Bowlers will bowl one game to determine their score. Any score less than 100 will be adjusted to a minimum 100 score. Each bowler is encouraged to get $100 worth of sponsorships. Local businesses and corporations will be solicited to sponsor a team of five bowlers. Bowlers participating as a member of a business or company sponsored team will automatically be sponsored for a flat sponsorship of $100 per bowler. All sponsorship money will be ultimately paid to the Illinois Jaycee Charitable Foundation allowing all sponsors to claim their donation on their taxes.

Each chapter will have a local representative that is in charge of registrations and collecting pledges. Upon the conclusion of the event, each bowler will be responsible for collecting his or her sponsorships and submitting to the local rep. Team sponsors are encouraged to submit their sponsorship donation prior to the event.

Once all sponsorships are collected by the local chapter, they are to be forwarded to the Illinois Jaycee Charitable Foundation. The Foundation will accumulate the total amount of money raised and donate it along with the matching funds donation provided by your Foundation to the Junior Chamber Family AIDS Network Foundation on behalf of the Illinois Jaycees. The donation will be then directed to The Children's Place.

Bowling League Participation

When the sponsoring Jaycee chapters contact the bowling center concerning the use of their facility for the Project Ten Pin bowl-a-thon, they are encouraged to ask for permission to target league bowlers at the center. They should obtain a list of league secretaries from the bowling center to contact.

Participating bowling leagues should begin the process four weeks in advance of the event. A Jaycee rep will attend the bowling league night and solicit bowlers to participate. Sponsorship forms will be distributed to those participating for them to obtain donations and sponsors within the next two weeks. League bowlers are encouraged to get a minimum of 10 sponsors. On their next league night, have participating league bowlers record their high score for the evening. Bowlers then have two weeks to collect their sponsorships. The Jaycee rep will attend the league night to collect the donations.

Donated Prizes

Sponsoring Jaycee chapters are encouraged to solicit prizes from various local businesses. These prizes will be offered to the participating bowlers at the discretion of the sponsoring chapter since the prizes list will vary between bowl-a-thons. Some prizes will be offered to league bowlers participating and some prizes will be offered during the bowl-a-thon.

Foundation Involvement

A representative of the Illinois Jaycee Charitable Foundation Board will be assigned to attend one of the bowl-a-thons in their area to show our support and lend assistance to the sponsoring Jaycee chapter.

Once all the money is collected, the Illinois Jaycee Charitable Foundation will announce the results of the state-wide Project Ten Pin and make a check presentation to a representative of the Junior Chamber Family AIDS Network during luncheon activities of a state-wide Illinois Jaycee General Assembly Meeting. Representatives of your Foundation are encouraged to attend to make a formal presentation of your donation at that time.

Interested chapters and sponsors should contact the Executive Director of the IJCF for more details.
